The Trouble With Bernie

Grandpa's Advice -2

Almost every day of his life, in some way large or small, he managed to get into some kind of trouble. By now he was so used to it, it didn’t really come as a surprise that even a snake hunt could be interrupted by the familiar knot in his stomach that always accompanied trouble.

“I just this minute realized,” said Alex, scrunching up his face, “that someday we’re gonna grow up.”

Bernie stared at his friend in relief and wonder. Alex was capable of saying the most amazing things, totally out of the blue. “Everybody grows up,” said Bernie. “So what?”

“So what!” said Alex. “Don’t you see? When we’re grown up, we’ll never ever go on another snake hunt again. We’ll be just like our parents. We won’t even allow snakes in our house.”

Bernie shook his head. “No way, I’ll always hunt snakes. I’ll never get too old for that.”

“Oh yes you will,” said Alex, folding his arms across his chest. “You just wait and see.”
